Volvo’s Red Army on the March

28/10/08

It takes a small army of staff and volunteers to keep the Volvo Masters running like clockwork with the aim of making it the smoothest and most professional show on the road for the 57 players and  more than 50,000 spectators who congregate for one last time in Andalucia.

500-plus volunteers and many more staff is what it takes to get the Volvo Masters show on the road.

From Volvo Masters project manager Monique Kuse and her Volvo Event Management team through to the European Tour staff and regiments of marshals, stewards, scorers and officials, caterers and courtesy car drivers, the first shot struck on Valderrama’s first tee at 8am on Thursday 30th October 2008 is the culmination of many months work.

“Volvo has a great professional team working alongside the staff of the European Tour and Vladerrama,” says Ms Kuse, adding, “But I would like to make special mention to our 500-plus volunteers, many of whom have been with us since the start of the Volvo Masters in 1988.”

She adds, “They give up their free time every year for the benefit of the Volvo Masters and we appreciate it and hope they all enjoy the experience, especially this year as it is the 21st and final Volvo Masters.”

Says Barry drew, the Chief Marshall, who, with his wife Mavis has worked on many of the recent Volvo Masters, “It’s a great event, hard work but it’s worth it and the Volvo Masters always has a special team spirit.”

Identified by their Peak Performance uniforms, the Volvo Masters ‘Red Army’ is on hand to assist players and spectators alike.
