Climactic Climate for Volvo Masters
30/10/08
The 21st and final Volvo Masters got off to a flying start at Valderrama in bright sunshine but with the wind picking-up and the promise of cool, windy weather as the flagship of the European Tour draws to a climactic close.
Keeping a weather eye on the Valderrama climate during the Volvo Masters is Mike McClellan, President of Mobile Weather Team, the official weather forecasters to the European Tour.
And the news is not encouraging.
“We start the Volvo Masters with a lot of sunshine on the first day with the breeze freshening and some rain after play concludes for the day,” says Mclellan, explaining, “There is a really cold blast of Arctic air coming down from the north and that will affect the second and third days of the Volvo Masters for sure.”
With players and spectators all keeping an eye on the weather, McClellan adds, “Obviously the wind affects things for the players, especially on a tight golf course like Valderrama.”
He concludes, “For the tens of thousands of spectators here this week, my advice would be to come prepared with waterproofs, an umbrella and a warm jacket.”
Said 2007 Volvo China Open champion Marcus Brier, who carded a one-over-par 72, It was a tricky wind out there and it affects most shots here at Valderrama.”
